BWINDI NATIONAL PARK 

BWINDI NATIONAL PARK 

The Bwindi National park is located in southwestern Uganda. This location is part of the Bwindi impenetrable forest bordering Congo close to the Virunga National Park at the edge of Albertine Rift valley, composed of 321 square km accessible only by foot.

The park contains diverse mammals, 348 species of birds, 27 species of frogs, 220 species of butterflies, 163 species of trees, and 104 species of ferns.

The park further is home to Colobus monkeys, but most of all, it is home to the Bwindi Gorillas. Fourteen habituated mountain gorilla groups are open to tourism in different sectors of Ruhijja, Buhoma, Rushaga, and Nkuringo in the district of Kanungu, kabala and Kisoro. All of these are under the management of the Government body called Uganda wildlife authority.

For any person to access the gorillas, you must have a tracking permit from the Uganda wildlife authority, which your trusted tour company can obtain. Other activities are bird watching and a waterfall trek guided by a forest ranger.

KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

Kibale national park is located in western Uganda. It sits on 766 square kilometres in size and is located between 1,100 Metres(3,600ft) and gazetted in 1932 to protect a large area of forest previously managed as a logged forest reserve. It comprises a moist evergreen forest with one of the last remaining expanses to contain both low land and Montane forest in eastern Africa.

The two major tribes of Batooro and Bakiga inhabit the area near the park. They use the park for their livelihood with some incentives from the Uganda wildlife authority.

 This park is known for Chimpanzee trekking, Uganda Mangabey, Red Colobus monkey and LHoest’smonkey, black and white Colobus monkey and blue monkey. The Elephants travel between the park and Queen Elizabeth National park. The primary activity, however, a lot of other activities like nature walks for birding and community interaction in Bigodi with numerous women projects to raise their standards of living is evident. There are 13 species of primates in this park.

Queen Elizabeth National Park occupies an estimated area of 1978 square Kilometre. The park stretches for Lake George in the north – East -East to Lake Edward in the south – West, and this also includes the Kazinga Channel that connects the two Roads. 

This park is known for its wildlife, including, Antelopes, Uganda, Kob, Giant Forest Hog, Warthog, Nile crocodile, African Bush Elephants, and chimpanzees. A home for Mammals and over 500 bird species. It consists of an area in Ishasha in Rukungiri district famous for tree-climbing lions.

Queen Elizabeth National park and the adjacent Virunga National park is a lion conservation bodies. This park also has volcanic features, for example, deep crater lakes, like Katwe Crater, from which salt is extracted.

SEMULIKI NATIONAL PARK

Semuliki National Park is located in Bwamba county remote place in Bundibujjo district in the western region of Uganda. Founded as a national park in October 1993, it is recorded as one of the newest parks formed, sitting on an area of 219 km. It has diverse plants and animals together with birds and butterflies. The Uganda wildlife authority also manages this park.

This park borders River Semiliki and River Lamia, where many animals drink. Two hot springs are another highlight of the place. The park has more than 400 bird species. These include lyre-tailed honeyguides, buffaloes, hippos, mona monkeys, African civets, African elephants and much more. 

RWENZORI NATIONAL PARK

The Rwenzori national park is a Ugandan national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Rwenzori mountains. It sits on 1000kms. In size, this park is unique in its beautiful plant life.

This was established in 1991 and designed as a UNESCO site in 1994 because of its beautiful natural beauty.

Murchison falls national park is located in North-Western Uganda, spreading from the shore of Lake Albert around Victoria Nile up to Karuma falls.

Its site is on the adjacent 748 square kilometres, Bugungu wildlife reserve, Karuma wildlife reserve and all of these form the Murchison falls conservation area.

Explorers John Speke and James Grant were the first European to visit the present-day Murchison Falls park in 1862, Samuel further explored it, and Florence Baker in 1863, who named it Murchison falls after the geologist Roderick Murchison. The latter was the of the royal geographical society.

The park consists of Budongo forest reserve, having 76 mammals and a large population of Nile crocodiles, 450 bird species, including the shoe bill stork, Goliath Heron, white-thighed hornbill and a great blue turaco. Elephants, giraffes, warthogs, bush hogs, Pumba and many more.

KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Kidepo National Park is located near Karenga in Kaabong district, in the northeastern corner of Uganda. The park is approximately 220km by road northwest of Moroto. The northwest boundary of the park runs along the international frontier with Bira, south Sudan and abuts the Kidepo game reserve.

The government of Uganda Milton Obote converted the Reserve into the Kidepo valley national park in 1962. The park comprises several animals and bird species ranging from wild dogs, lions, hyenas, foxes, Rothschild giraffe, buffalo thorn, fine thatching grass, red oat grass and many more

the game reserve was gazetted initially animal sanctuary in 1958. the area has a hot spring potential for geothermal tapping at Cheposukunya and mercury wells at Mt. Kadam. The Reserve features a semi-arid climate with one rainy season annually.

A vast area of the Reserve is covered by undisturbed grassland and wood grassland. Small areas of riverine woodland also exist. The dominant tree species include Red acacia and desert date, bush willow, red spike-thorns, and shrubs, including butterfly pea and woolly caper bush.

The most spotted animals in the area are Oribi, Jackals, cheetah, Ugandan Kob water buck common eland.

Lake Mburo National Park is located in the Kiruhuru district in the western region of Uganda. The park is 30 km by road east of Mbarara, the largest city in the area. The park has a variety of animals such as Zebras, Hippopotamus, impala, warthog, common eland, African buffalo, Jackal, African leopard and over 300 bird species. At 260 km, the park is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah National parks.

Mgahinga National Park in southwestern Uganda was created in 1991 and covered an area of 33.9km.,

Mgahingga gorilla national park is located in the Virunga mountains and consists of three inactive volcanoes, Muhabra, Mount Gahinga and Mount Sabyinyo. It is contiguous with Rwanda’s Volcanoes national park and the southern sector of Virunga national park in the democratic republic of congo.

The park is 15km by road south of the town of Kisoro and approximately 55 km west of Kabale, the largest city in the sub-region.

The National park encompasses a bamboo forest, Albertine rift montane. 

The park is known for its Mountain gorillas, golden monkey, and many birds.

Kampala is Uganda’s capital city in the commercial Centre bordering lake victoria, the largest in Africa. The city comprises downtown lifestyles. Street foods are unavoidable! The city is among beautiful hills and skyscrapers which inhabit several offices and commercial shops.

In the same area, we find a vast array of craft works from both women and men made out of local fibre, pots, mats, and anything you can think of. With this beautiful city, you cannot miss seeing the smiles of Ugandans that will keep you enjoying your stay in Uganda, the pearl of Africa.

KAMPALA inhibits several attractions from the kabaka palace in Mengo, Kabaka Lake, artificial, the museum, Bahai temple, the cathedrals, large mosques, the old and new taxi parks, the food market and a second-hand market Owino(St. Balikudembe). Once in Kampala, you cannot miss out on all these.

FOOD 

Kampala is specially occupied by the Buganda tribe, whose staple food is mainly steamed foods, like matooke, ground nuts, and Fish. These delicacies can be made at once in one hour or less, and food will be ready. Visiting this city, you cannot go away minus its famous delicacies. Lunch will be served before retiring to your lodge.

PEOPLE

Ugandans are well known for their welcoming nature. Smiling faces and living around them will only bring the positive feeling. When trolling the streets of Kampala, you cannot fail to hear kids shouting Muzungu “! Meaning a white person” with excitement. It is essential that when moving to these communities, you carry small petty goodies to give to kids if you can.

WEATHER.

Kampala has bright weather, with temperatures not typically going beyond 36 degrees. The weather is conducive for everyday activities. It can rain, but when it is done, activities continue. You do not need to carry heavy jackets.

DRESS CODE

Being that the city is usually warm, light clothes are encouraged. Open flaps, sunglasses and hats are a good idea. An umbrella is added advantage. It might rain.

BOAT CRUISE IN UGANDA

Uganda has the largest lake in Africa, Lake Victoria. This has boosted several activities like fishing and transport by the lake with locally made motor boats. Business transport companies have emerged, including MV Vannessa boat, Kalagala MV ferry, MV Brovads, wild frontier and much more.

Kibale forest is known for chimpanzee trekking and activity that brings you closer to them. After a briefing by a site ranger, you will typically enter the forest and spot them from their playful nature and noise.

The Kazinga boat cruise is found in the Queen Elizabeth National park. It is a ride to remember and gives you a close glance at the large aquatics. Hippos swimming is hauling in water quenching thirst on a hot day. The ride will if you a chance to see even other animals in the park-like antelopes, bushbucks, birds and much more. Taking a boat ride to the channel will make you see the aquatic life in their natural habitat.

Meet the zebras. Lake Mburo National park is also known as the zebra magnet, the smallest park among all parks in Uganda. This is the only park where you can be allowed to get out of the car. Other animals include antelopes, baboons, giraffes, and longhorn cattle, all just closer to yourself.

Meet the tree climbing lions. These are most popular in the Ishasha sector in Queen Elizabeth National park. You can see its prey hanging from the tree if you are lucky.

After your gorilla tour adventure, you will have a community walk in the Batwa to experience their traditional lifestyle. It is unique and enjoying their stay in the forest. They usually feed on the food they cultivate: tree bark, roots and fruits.

These are also known as the minor people in the forest. They live in small communities with an old way of life. A visit to their homestead will excite you about the universe’s diversity.
